Mary was a young woman who loved God. She lived in the city of Nazareth in the land of Galilee.
One day God sent an angel to visit Mary. Mary trembled. But the angel said: “Do not be afraid, Mary. God wants you to be the mother of His son, Jesus.” Jesus would be king of the Jews.
Mary was planning to marry a young carpenter named Joseph. God sent an angel to visit Joseph too. The angel said: “Mary is going to have God’s baby. God wants you to take care of Mary and Jesus.”
Mary and Joseph waited joyfully for the birth of Jesus. Joseph made a little cradle. Mary made baby clothes. Then, just before the baby was born, Joseph had to go to the city of Bethlehem. He took Mary with him. During the long journey, God watched over them.
